PCO – hormonal analysis

PCO/PCOS

PCO – Poly Cystic Ovaries
PCOS – Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome

At a practical level, it can be difficult to tell the two definitions apart. That’s why we use the term PCO about both.
PCO is a very common hormonal disturbance among women of child-bearing age. Approx. every 7th woman has PCO, and in 2009 we treated 225 women with PCO in the clinic.
The symptoms of PCO can be irregular periods, weight gain, increased hair growth and acne; PCO can also cause infertility.
If PCO is the reason why you don’t get pregnant, you need professional treatment. In your second cycle, we’ll do a hormonal analysis to establish whether you have PCO. Hormonal values like FSH, LH and Androgen Status will be measured. In addition, a scan will show if you have any cysts. If you’ve got PCO, there’ll often be a number of small cysts placed in the periphery of your ovaries. And the ovaries may be enlarged due to a lot of connective tissue in the centre.
