Laparoscopy is a keyhole examination of the pelvis.
The examination is performed to get a total picture of your fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus and other abdominal organs. You’ll need general anaesthesia, and the procedure involves inserting a thin tube (telescope) through a small hole next to your belly button. Depending on the type of examination or surgery, one or more instruments may be inserted in various places of your abdomen. Contrast substance will usually be injected via the uterus through the fallopian tubes to check the passage. You can read more about laparoscopy under Ovarian cysts, Endometriosis and Removal of fallopian tubes.
